FREE travel for kids

We believe experiencing Europe with your family can be truly amazing. This is why children aged 11 and younger can travel for free. One of the best ways your child can learn about the world is by seeing it.

Free travel for kids aged 3 or younger

Children under 4 on their first day of travel, travel for free and do not need an Interrail Pass. On crowded trains, parents may be requested to put the child on their lap, as they are not guaranteed their own seat.

If you would like a seat for your child you must reserve a seat in advance; however, an Interrail Child Pass is required to make a seat reservation. Make sure to order a (free) Child Pass with your Adult Pass if you're planning on booking seats for your child younger than 4.

On night trains, it is necessary to reserve and pay for a separate couchette or sleeper if you would like your child to have their own bed.

Free travel for kids aged 4 to 11

Children aged 4-11 on their first day of travel can also travel for free. They will need to travel with a Child Pass which can be ordered together with an Adult Pass (applies to all Interrail Passes). When ordering your Interrail Adult Pass, add the number of Child Passes you need to your cart from the pass tables.

Up to two children can travel for free with any one adult. The adult they travel with does not have to be a family member, just any adult over the age of 18 at the time of travel.

If more than two children want to travel with one adult, a separate Youth Pass will need to be purchased per extra child.
