1. Stockholm, Sweden

Start your trip in Sweden’s attractive capital, which mixes picture-book looks with elegant modernity. Stockholm is spread across 14 islands, but it’s surprisingly easy to get around via bridges, ferries, and the Tunnelbana metro system.

Take the Berlin Night Express from Malmö, which runs from mid-June until mid-August. Reservations are mandatory, but Interrail Pass holders get a discount. Alternatively, head down to Berlin via Copenhagen and Hamburg and add a few more stops to your trip!
