Reservations for Eurostar, TGV INOUI and RENFE trains
Many high-speed rail services require advance reservations and have limited seat availability for Interrail Pass holders. Check below for the most popular routes and what do if you can't reserve a seat.
Travelling to or from the United Kingdom
With the Eurostar
The Eurostar is a high-speed train connecting Great Britain to mainland Europe, bringing you from London to Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam in just a few hours. Holders of an Interrail Global Pass can travel on the Eurostar with a mandatory reservation. This can be booked on our Reservation Service up to 3 months in advance or via alternative means.
Interrail Pass holder seats have limited availability, so make sure to book the Eurostar as soon as possible to reserve your seat. You can check seat availability on Eurostar train connections between London and mainland Europe, i.e. Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany, on the B-Europe website. Reservations for the Eurostar are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
Can't make a reservation?
1. Eurostar tickets are in high demand. Be flexible with the date and time of your intended departure to find another train suiting your schedule.
2. If the reservation is available but you can't book it on the Reservation Service, there might be a technical issue. Instead, book your train on b-europe, using your mobile Pass number or paper Pass cover number.
3. If the train is fully booked for Interrail Pass holders, you'll need to pay for a full-fare point-to-point ticket or use an alternative form of transportation, such as the Stena Line Ferry, a benefit partner for Interrail Pass holders.
Travelling between France and Spain
With the TGV inOui high-speed train operated by SNCF
The TGV inOui is an international high-speed train connecting Spain and France. It allows you to travel quickly between cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Barcelona and Madrid.
Reservations on TGV inOui high-speed trains are compulsory. You need to have a valid Interrail Global Pass to access these international routes.
You can book this train through our Reservation Service up to 3 months in advance. Your reservation will be sent to your inbox as an e-ticket.
Can't make a reservation?
If you can't book this train in advance, there are three alternatives:
- The TGV to Montpellier (France) and then the TER to Portbou (Spain). From here, you can access frequent regional trains to Barcelona and other cities in Spain.
- The night train from Paris Austerlitz (France) to Cerbère (Spain). From here, you can take the R11 regional train to Barcelona.
- The night train from Paris Austerlitz (France) to Latour-de-Carol (France). From here, you can take the R3 regional train to Barcelona.
International TGV inOui trains have a limited number of train services operating regularly. The trains may not be available on selected days. Book well in advance if you intend to use this train.
If the reservation is available but you can't book it online using our Reservation Service, there might be a technical issue. Find alternative ways to book your seats for TGV inOui trains in our How to book seats guide.
You could also book your train at the ticket desk of a long-distance railway station in France or Spain, but we recommend doing this some time in advance of your preferred train journey. Please note that seat reservations are unlikely to be available if you decide to book them at the station on the day of your journey. Find a list of long-distance stations here.
Travelling in Spain
With RENFE
If you're travelling in Spain, the majority of the trains you'll take are run by RENFE, the Spanish national rail company. Many trains require advance reservations.
These trains can be booked using our Reservation Service or via alternate means. Find out all the ways to book RENFE trains in Spain in our How to book seats guide.
Tips for reservations in Spain:
- Be flexible and book as soon as you can, depending on seat availability. It's important to consider this when planning accommodation for your trip.
- Many regional trains, like the one between Barcelona and Madrid, do not require reservations. You can find them in our timetable by clicking on 'Reservation Type' and then ticking the 'No seat reservations required' box.
- The Cercanías (commuter) trains never require reservations. Unfortunately you won't be able to find these trains in our timetable. You can find more information on these trains, like the routes and departure times, on the RENFE website.
If you're unable to make your chosen reservation, consider an alternative destination or travel on a different day. With the Interrail Mobile Pass, you can cancel your travel day any time before the start of that day (local time) and use it at a later date.
