24 hours in Seville may not be long, but it’s enough time to realise why so many people praise this Spanish city. Pay a visit to Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It's an impressive site to behold even just from the outside. If it’s a particularly warm day, venture inside for a view of the lavish interior, and some of its 80 chapels.

Walk the streets and soak up the history

 

Santa Cruz is a beautiful neighbourhood to explore on foot. Previously the Jewish quarter, this vibrant region of the city is defined by narrow streets, thriving tapas bars and interesting museums. It’s a great place in which to get lost and track down a high-quality meal. After lunch it might be a good idea to have a traditional Spanish siesta.

The Plaza de España is well worth a visit for its remarkable architecture. You can explore it by foot or view the sights from a rowing boat. The Plaza has featured in Hollywood movies like Lawrence of Arabia and, more recently, as the planet Naboo in Star Wars: Episode II.

Everyone in Seville has an opinion on the giant wooden structure above La Encarnación square. Though divisive for residents, it’s an interesting sight to explore while en-route to dinner in Alameda de Hércules.

Alameda de Hércules may have the reputation for the best nightlife in Seville, but it’s worth a visit even if you’re not partying the night away. There are several open-air restaurants perfect for people watching, and if the mood takes you it’s easy to find a bit of live music before turning in for the night.

If you have some time to spend before you depart, take a gentle stroll or cycle along Guadalquivir, Seville’s beautiful large river. It’s the fifth longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, and runs past several popular attractions like Torre del Oro, San Telmo, and Parque de Maria Luisa.
