A family trip from Great Britain to Sweden and back
Wongani, Lisanne and their two children (aged 2 and 4) recently travelled from their home in Oxford to Stockholm entirely by rail. Along the way, they experienced cities like Ghent, Hamburg, Falkenberg and beyond.
In this itinerary, Wongani shares his suggestions for Interrailing with a family. "The kids loved playing games on the trains, and visiting all the playgrounds that we got to explore," he said. "Lisanne and I enjoyed exploring new places we’ve never been before and being able to find the right balance between rest, food, coffee and play during the holiday."
Backpackers give their essential Interrail tips
Journalist Conor Capplis recently visited Portbou, near the border of Spain and France. There, he met a handful of other Interrailers who were keen to share their suggestions for planning a memorable Interrail trip.
“I thought after now I would be more exhausted and stressed out,” one Interrailer told him. “But the time just flew. And we’ve got the hang of the backpacks too. It’s not like you have to be like a ‘backpacker’ — this type of free-spirited traveller — we’re just normal people with things stuffed into our bags.”
