We believe experiencing Europe with your family can be truly amazing. This is why children aged 11 and younger can travel for free. One of the best ways your child can learn about the world is by seeing it.
Children under 4 travel for free
Children under 4 on their first day of travel, go for free and they don't need an Interrail pass. On crowded trains, parents may be requested to put the child on their lap, as they are not guaranteed their own seat. If you would like a seat for your child you must reserve a seat in advance.
On night trains, it is necessary to reserve and pay for a separate couchette or sleeper if you would like your child to have their own bed.
Children aged between 4-11 travel for free
Children aged 4-11 on their first day of travel can also travel for free. They will need to travel with a Child Pass which can be bought together with an Adult Pass (applies to all Interrail passes) or Senior Pass (applies to Interrail Premium passes only). You can find this by choosing the 'Family' tab when choosing your pass.
Up to two children can travel for free with any one adult. The adult they travel with doesn't even have to be a family member, just any adult over the age of 18 at the time of travel.
